STREAM SWEET SPIRIT -ST. MOJO
AUSTIN BAND SWEET SPIRIT RETURNS WITH THEIR SOPHOMORE RELEASE ST. MOJO (APRIL 7 ON NINE MILE RECORDS).
ST. MOJO WAS PRODUCED BY STEVE BERLIN (LOS LOBOS, DEER TICK) AND ENGINEERED BY STUART SIKES (JACK WHITE, MODEST MOUSE) AND CAPTURES THE BAND'S INTENSE LIVE ENERGY AND EXPANDING RANGE. RECORDED IN THE FABLED TREEHOUSE STUDIOS IN THE HILLS ABOVE AUSTIN, BERLIN AND THE BAND SPENT SEVERAL DAYS DECONSRUCTING THE BAND'S SOUND, AND ARRANGING THESE INTRICATE TRACKS. MEMBERS OF GROUPO FANTASMA, A GIANT DOG AND MOTHER FALCON MAKE GUEST APPEARANCES AS WELL.
THE RESULT IS A DYNAMIC COLLECTION OF SONGS THAT RECALLS BOTH THE HEY DAY OF 70s STADIUM CLASSICS AND THE FULL OCTANE ROCK AND ROLL BAR BAND THAT SWEET SPIRIT IS IN CONCERT:
"The musical embodiment of a pep rally, the promising band is all arms-in-the-air shout-alongs. Boy/girl vocals alternate, a tiny horn section adds just a dash of rhythm and blues, and nearly every song on Tuesday at some point floored the accelerator. “I got a broken heart, so take me to a party,” shouted main vocalist Sabrina Ellis. No need, the exuberant act brought its own." - Todd Martens, L.A. Times
"Austin’s Sweet Spirit oscillate between garage melodicism and dizzy fury, and people have taken notice." - Patrick Hosken, Stereogum
"Ellis has a bit of a dramatic, cabaret indie-rock flair, belting out hooks and harmonies with a lot of conviction." - Bruce Warren, WXPN
"A sweaty shot of garage rock tempered with a warm caress of soul grooves." - Austin Monthly Magazine
"Sabrina Ellis is a force of nature. Her voice soars, pierces through swells of sound even when she’s barreling into a guitar riff or go-go dancing (which she does, frequently and enthusiastically). Sweet Spirit are also one of the tightest and most versatile bands in Austin or, quite frankly, from anywhere right now." - Austin American-Statesman concert review
